Sensex declines by 155.77 pts to 80,641.07

Mumbai, May 6 (UNI) Snapping the winning streak of last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday slipped by 155.77 points in a volatile session to settle in negative at 80,641.07 on profit-booking by local operators.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) also declined 81.55 pts to 24,379.60.

The Sensex advanced 110.40 pts to 80,907.24 in opening session and then rallied 185 pts to hit day’s high of 80,981.58. Later, it nosedived by 315 pts to touch day’s low of 80,481.03, before closing in red at 80,641.07, down by 155.77 pts as compared to its previous close.

The Nifty registered day’s high at 24,509.65 and low at 24,331.80 pts.

Stocks that dragged the market were Realty, Power, Industrials and BSE services.

Realty tumbled 3.49 pc, followed by Power by 2.64 pc, Industrials by 2 pc and BSE services by 2.53 pc.

The Mid-cap eased by 2.16 pc and Small-cap edged lower by 2.33 pc.

Among 30 scrips, 10 advanced while 20 declined.

The losers were Eternal down by 3.15 pc to Rs 232.45, Adani Ports by 2.29 pc to Rs 1,315.90, SBI by 2.24 pc to Rs 772.30 and Tata Motors by 2.03 pc to Rs 648.20.

The gainers were Bharti Airtel by 1.66 pc to Rs 1,896.35, Tata Steel by 1.34 pc to Rs 144, Hind Unilever by 1.28 pc to Rs 2,378.50 and M&M by 1.12 pc to Rs 3,055.30.

A mixed trend was seen in Asian markets, as Strait Times was a tad up by 0.19 pc and Hang Seng by 0.70 pc while Taiwan Weighted slid by 0.05 pc and Set Composite by 0.94 pc.
