Mumbai, Jan 6 (UNI) The BSE Sensex crashed further on Monday by 1258.12 pts to settle at 77,964.99, after the central government confirmed two cases of Human Metapneumo virus.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 388.70 pts at 23,616.05.
The Sensex rose 58 pts at 79,281.65 in the opening session. It further gained 309 pts at 79,532.67, a day high.
Later, it tanked 1442 pts at 77,781.62, a day low, before closing at 77,964.99, slumping 1258.12 pts from its previous close.
The stocks that kept the market low were Utilities by 4.16 pc followed by Power by 3.73 pc and Metal and Oil and Gas fell by 3.15 pc each.
The Mid-cap declined by 2.44 pc and Small-cap by 3.17 pc.
In 30 scrips, 2 advanced while 28 remained declined.
The losers were Tata Steel by 4.37 pc to Rs 132.25, NTPC by 3.75 pc to Rs 327.45, Kotak Bank by 3.32 pc to Rs 1778, IndusInd Bank by 3 pc to Rs 968.15 and Power by 2.97 pc to Rs 306.75.
The gainers were Titan by 0.77 pc to Rs 3475.65 and Sun Pharma by 0.01 pc to Rs 1849.30.
