Scrap Hunt: 15.1 tonnes of waste cleared from Kerala Govt offices

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 26 (UNI) The Public Office complex, one of the major administrative hubs of the Kerala government, has undergone a significant clean-up with the removal of 15.1 tonnes of long-accumulated scrap.

The initiative, part of the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, has given the premises a cleaner and greener look. The drive was organised under the Clean Kerala Company’s flagship ‘Scrap Hunt’ programme, which collects and recycles unused waste from government institutions.

The operation was particularly effective in tackling electronic waste, discarded furniture, plastics, and metal debris.

Officials said the clearance included 4 tonnes of e-waste, 4.5 tonnes of broken furniture, 3.8 tonnes of plastics, and 2.8 tonnes of metal scrap. The entire collection was handed over to Clean Kerala Company Ltd for scientific processing, ensuring that nothing was sent to landfills.

The campaign was symbolically launched when Land Revenue Commissioner K Jeevan Babu flagged off the Scrap Hunt vehicle. Suchitwa Mission Executive Director U V Jose led the operations, with enthusiastic participation from employees of various departments.

Officials noted that the clean-up is part of a state-wide action plan linked to the Centre’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme. The campaign has not only rejuvenated the historic office complex but has also set an inspiring model for other government institutions across Kerala to follow.
