School bus erupts in massive fire in Jabalpur

Was on way to picnic; children had a narrow escape

Bhopal; On Sunday morning in Jabalpur, a school bus en route to a picnic erupted in a massive fire, carrying a total of 46 people, including 36 children. Fortunately, everyone on board escaped unharmed.

Prompt response from onlookers led to the summoning of the fire brigade, which, with substantial effort, managed to bring the situation under control. Additionally, an army fire brigade arrived at the scene, successfully evacuating the children by breaking the bus’s windows.

Distressing visuals captured at the site depicted the bus reduced to ashes while army personnel worked diligently to contain the blaze. The ill-fated bus belonged to a Government Secondary School in Patan.

The bus, designed for 32 passengers, was carrying 46 school students and staff from a rural area to Dumna Nature Park for a picnic when the incident occurred near Nehru Chowk on Dumna Road, within the jurisdiction of Khamaria police station.

Reports indicate a lack of proper fire safety arrangements in the bus at the time of the accident, with a short circuit identified as the initial cause of the fire.
