New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notice in a petition filed by India’s international sailor Pearl Milind Colvalcar challenging the Bombay High Court (Goa Bench) order that quashed the State Government’s decision to allot vacant seats under the Children of Freedom Fighters category to meritorious sportspersons under the sports quota.
A Bench comprising Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe sought responses after hearing Colvalcar, who is seeking admission to the MBBS course under the sports quota in NEET (UG) 2025.
On August 25, the High Court struck down the Goa Government’s August 1 decision, holding that such allotment was arbitrary and amounted to changing the rules midway in the admission process.
Challenging the ruling, the petitioner argued that the judgment was erroneous as it ignored the Goa Sports Policy, 2009, which provides 3% reservation for outstanding sportspersons who have represented the State and won medals in recognised national or international championships.
