SC Bar Association requests live streaming of Waqf Amendment Act hearings

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has formally requested the Supreme Court to live stream the hearings of petitions challenging the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.

In a letter addressed to Registrar (Technology) H.S. Jaggi, SCBA Honorary Secretary Vikrant Yadav highlighted the chaotic situation during the hearing held on April 16, stating that the courtroom was so overcrowded that there was no space left to sit or even stand.

According to the letter, the packed environment led to discomfort among several advocates, with many experiencing suffocation and claustrophobia. Alarmingly, two advocates reportedly fainted due to the congestion.

To address the issue and ensure wider access, Yadav suggested that a live streaming link be shared with the SCBA office, which can then circulate it among members at the time of the hearing.

The matter is being heard today at 2 pm by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar, and Justice K.V. Viswanathan.
