Satwiksairaj-Chirag eye comeback at Swiss Open 2026

Basel, Mar 9 (UNI) India’s top men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will look to bounce back at the Swiss Open 2026 badminton tournament beginning at the St. Jakobshalle on Tuesday, following an early exit at last week’s All England Open Badminton Championships.

Ranked fourth in the world in men’s doubles, the Indian duo were stunned in the opening round in Birmingham by Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai, currently ranked 33rd, as per Olympics.com.

The reigning Asian Games 2022 champions will aim for a stronger run in Basel, where they had lifted the title in 2023.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, a former Swiss Open champion, will skip the Super 300 tournament after also missing the All England Open.

In her absence, Malvika Bansod and Unnati Hooda will spearhead India’s challenge in women’s singles, while Tanvi Sharma and Anmol Kharb will look to make an impact after progressing through the qualifying rounds.

Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen, a semifinalist at the 2024 Summer Olympics, will skip the Swiss Open following his gruelling run to the final of the All England Open.

India’s men’s singles hopes will rest on experienced shuttlers, including Kidambi Srikanth, the Swiss Open champion in 2015, along with HS Prannoy, Ayush Shetty, and Kiran George.

In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will be the only Indian pair in action.

Apart from Satwik and Chirag, India’s men’s doubles campaign will also feature MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila.

In mixed doubles, India will be represented by Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto and Rohan Kapoor/Ruthvika Shivani Gadde.
