Sandalwood theft attempt inside Assembly premises

  • Three trees targeted

Bhopal: A shocking attempt to steal sandalwood trees from the MP Assembly premises has raised serious questions about the security of one of the state’s most sensitive locations. Despite heightened vigilance during the ongoing winter session, thieves managed to target three sandalwood trees inside the complex.

On Thursday morning, the fourth day of the session, officials and staff were stunned to find a fully felled sandalwood tree in the Assembly parking area. Two other trees also bore deep saw marks, indicating that the thieves had begun cutting them but abandoned the attempt midway. Although the culprits failed to carry away the wood, the incident has exposed a major security lapse.

This is not the first such occurrence. On November 17, thieves had similarly cut down a sandalwood tree outside the DFO office in the VVIP 74 Bungalow area of the capital.

Assembly security teams have launched an investigation. CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify those involved, and security personnel on duty are being questioned. The attempted theft has triggered concern among officials, who now face the urgent task of tightening surveillance across the high-security premises.
