Mumbai, March 20 (UNI) Actress Saiee M. Manjrekar, who stepped into Bollywood in 2019 with “Dabaang 3”, is now set to feature in an untitled pre-independence period drama.
Set in 1905 against the backdrop of love and revolution, the pan-India film features her as Sati. Produced by Ram Charan and Abhishek Agarwal, the Ram Vamsi Krishna directorial also stars Nikhil Siddharth and Anupam Kher.
The project requires her to step into a completely different time period, demanding detailed preparation and a strong understanding of historical context. Saiee described the preparation for this film as intense, challenging and a completely new experience for her.
Speaking about the film, Saiee revealed that the role inspired her to approach acting from a different perspective. From understanding the social and cultural climate of the era to adapting her body language, speech patterns, and mannerisms, she put in a lot of research and effort to portray the character accurately.
Speaking about her experience, Saiee said, “This project has been one of the most challenging and exciting journeys I’ve ever been on. Especially for a period drama set in the pre-Independence era, it’s not enough to just memorise the dialogues and show up on set. It requires a lot of preparation – reading about that time, doing research, understanding how people lived, spoke, carried themselves and expressed their emotions. Everything in those days was held in a unique discipline and simplicity, which is very different from today’s world.”
Saiee further elaborated that the most fascinating factor was the nuances of the process. The body language, the way one sits and stands, the way one enters a room, or one’s unspoken reactions—nothing should seem modern. This required her to abandon many of her habits and adopt a new physical and emotional style. It was difficult, but that’s what made it special. As an actor, she feels fortunate to be a part of a film that allowed her to understand a different era and improve herself.
Saiee is very excited about this project and believes it has taught her patience, discipline, and many important aspects of acting. Now, she is ready to bring this historical story to audiences with complete truth and depth through this film, which could prove to be a significant milestone in her career.
