Moscow, Oct 22 (UNI) Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the upcoming G-20 session in South Africa in November this year, announced Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, reports state media.
The bloc – which comprises 20 of the world’s largest economic powers – makes up 85% of the world’s total GDP, 75% of international trade, and represents approximately two-thirds of the global population.
“Putin will not participate personally, but Russia, as we have said, will be represented at a worthy level. We will inform you in due time who will go there,” the Kremlin spokesman said, commenting on Russia’s participation in the G20 summit in South Africa.
The G20 summit will take place in Johannesburg on November 22-23. Following its conclusion, the G20 presidency will pass from South Africa to the United States.
His G-20 skip comes amid the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the Russian leader. Despite being a strong partner state to Moscow, and maintaining neutrality in its war with Kyiv, Johannesburg is legally obligated to arrest Putin, due to being a signatory of the ICC’s Rome Statute
