Rupee down 39 paise against USD

Mumbai, May 7 (UNI) The Rupee continued its slide for second day on Wednesday, when it dropped further by 39 paise to close in negative at 84.82 against US Dollar on brisk demand for the greenback from foreign banks and exporters, dealers at the Forex Market said.

The domestic unit eased by seven paise to 84.50 in opening session and remained under pressure throughout the day, following geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan, as India reportedly hit nine terror bases in Pakistan past midnight.

The domestic currency recorded day’s high and low at 84.46 and 84.87, respectively, before closing at 84.82, down by 39 paise as compared to its previous close.

The firmness of American currency against other world currencies kept the rupee down, however, positive close of domestic equity markets capped its further losses, dealers added.
