Sydeny, Oct 25 (UNI) Rohit Sharma has joined an elite group of Indian cricketers with 100-plus catches in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), highlighting his skill as a fielder.
He achieved this milestone during the first innings of Australia in the third ODI played at the Sydney Cricket Ground here today.
The list of India’s top fielders also includes Virat Kohli (163), Mohammad Azharuddin (156), Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124), and Suresh Raina (102).
Rohit’s impact was on full display in the match, where he took two crucial catches. In the 37.4th over, Harshit Rana bowled a hard-length delivery to Mitchell Owen, who backed away and edged a tame shot to first slip. Rohit held the catch cleanly, giving Rana his second wicket in three overs.
Later, in the 43.5th over, Prasidh Krishna bowled what was intended as a slower yorker to Nathan Ellis, but it turned into a low full-toss. Ellis attempted a slog but mistimed it, and Rohit held a simple catch at mid-wicket, dismissing Ellis for 16 runs off 19 balls (4 fours, 3 dots).
India restricted Australia to 236 runs in 46.4 overs, powered by Rana’s exceptional spell, who claimed four wickets for 39 runs in 8.4 overs.
