Road accident claims woman’s life in Lalghati

Bhopal: A 50-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a loading auto-rickshaw at Lalghati intersection on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred around 9 a.m. when the woman, identified as Munni Bai Verma, was on her way to work. A resident of Nayapura Lalghati, she worked in a bungalow in Vijay Nagar and had set out on foot as usual.

According to Koh-e-Fiza police, the auto-rickshaw hit Munni Bai head-on while she was crossing the road. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Passersby immediately rushed the seriously injured woman to Hamidia Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Her son, Sumit Verma, said he received the tragic news upon reaching the hospital after being informed by the police. The family had no prior knowledge of the incident until then.

Police have seized the abandoned auto-rickshaw and are making efforts to trace the absconding driver. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the accused. The incident has once again raised concerns about rash driving and pedestrian safety at busy intersections in the city.
