RGPV takes firm action in assault incident

  • 2 students suspended, 6 expelled from hostel

Bhopal, The university administration at Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) in Bhopal has adopted a stringent approach following a recent incident of assault in its hostels. After a complaint was filed with the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline, an investigation led to disciplinary action against eight students.

The altercation occurred around 10 PM on August 2, involving students from the Baltic Hostel and the School of Architecture (SOA) Hostel of the University Institute of Technology (UIT). The conflict reportedly began over a phone call and escalated into a violent confrontation, with students wielding sticks and iron rods. While several students sustained injuries, fortunately, none were serious.

A video capturing the incident surfaced, prompting further scrutiny. Following the complaint received on August 3, the Anti-Ragging Committee convened on August 5 and 6, recommending strict measures against those found guilty.

Affidavits to be obtained from parents

As a result, six students have been expelled from the hostel, with department heads instructed to issue warning letters and obtain affidavits from their parents, ensuring no future involvement in indiscipline. These students, including Adarsh Pandey and Praveen Kumar Singh, will only be allowed to sit for examinations in November-December 2025 after submitting the required affidavits.

Additionally, the administration has taken severe action against two students, Gurpreet Singh and Dev Dahiya, suspending them for six months and expelling them from the hostel. Reports also surfaced of a knife attack during the incident, with one student claiming he narrowly escaped serious injury.
