‎New Delhi, Jan 26 (UNI) ‎West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday extended Republic Day greetings to the nation and urged citizens to remain vigilant in safeguarding the Constitution and the core values of the Indian Republic.

‎In a message posted on X, Banerjee called on people to reaffirm their commitment to the constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, while stressing the importance of social harmony in a diverse country like India.

‎”On this Republic Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all. Let us reaffirm our commitment to the core values of our Constitution — justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity,” she wrote. “Let us strive towards plurality, diversity, inclusiveness, and social harmony.”

‎Invoking a well-known democratic maxim, the Trinamool Congress supremo underscored the need for constant public awareness and responsibility. “I am reminded today of the old saying: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. I urge everyone today to exercise this vigil. Our republic and our Constitution today demand our collective vigilance,” Banerjee said.

‎The Chief Minister also paid tribute to those who played a role in India’s freedom struggle and nation-building, as well as to members of the armed forces and ordinary citizens.

“Today, I salute to all our freedom fighters, all the makers of our Constitution, as well as all our jawans and common citizens of India,” she added.

‎Republic Day, celebrated annually on January 26, marks the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950. Leaders across the political spectrum traditionally use the occasion to reflect on constitutional values, democratic responsibilities and the country’s ongoing journey as a republic.
