Remembering Piyush Pandey: The Visionary who redefined Indian advertising

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) The advertising world and creative community are mourning the loss of Piyush Pandey, a titan whose visionary genius reshaped Indian marketing and left an unforgettable imprint on the industry. Pandey passed away on Thursday at the age of 70 after battling an infection. His last rites are scheduled for Saturday.

A Padma Shri awardee, Pandey was widely celebrated as the architect of Indian advertising’s unique voice and identity. Spanning nearly four decades, his illustrious career featured iconic campaigns that still resonate deeply—from the catchy Fevicol jingles to the emotionally rich narratives of Cadbury and Asian Paints. His work set new benchmarks and transformed the way brands communicate with audiences across India.

Hailing from Jaipur, Pandey’s passion for advertising was kindled early in life alongside his brother Prasoon, with whom he lent his voice to radio jingles. He joined Ogilvy in 1982, crafting his first ad for Sunlight Detergent, and steadily rose through the ranks to become Chief Creative Officer Worldwide and Executive Chairman India. Under his stewardship, Ogilvy India delivered some of the most memorable and culturally attuned campaigns, inspiring generations of advertisers with his blend of creativity and cultural sensitivity. The news of his passing has left the advertising fraternity and media industry deeply shaken.

Colleagues, protégés, and admirers have paid tribute to a man whose brilliance was only matched by his humility and mentorship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt sorrow, saying, “Shri Piyush Pandey Ji was admired for his creativity. He made a monumental contribution to the world of advertising and communications.” Reflecting on their long association, Modi added, “I will fondly cherish our interactions over the years. Saddened by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti.” As the nation bids farewell to one of its greatest creative minds, Piyush Pandey’s legacy stands as a testament to the enduring power of storytelling, innovation, and the ability of advertising to shape cultural narratives and touch hearts across India.
