Rekha Gupta reviews innovations at Plastindia 2026

New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday attended the 12th International Plastindia 2026 Plastic Exhibition, Conference and Convention at Bharat Mandapam, where she reviewed innovations in plastic manufacturing, recycling and circular economy solutions.

During her visit, Gupta interacted with exhibitors and entrepreneurs and toured various stalls showcasing advanced technologies.

The conference has drawn participation from representatives of over 80 countries along with a large number of industry stakeholders.

Emphasising the Delhi Government’s vision of developing the national capital as a global city and strong commercial hub, the Chief Minister said concrete steps are being taken to strengthen industry and entrepreneurship.

She highlighted that collateral-free loans of up to Rs 10 crore are being provided to empower MSMEs, enabling small enterprises to access financial support without guarantees.

Gupta said Delhi has set a target of establishing 5,000 new start-ups, with a special focus on innovation and sustainable solutions in the plastic sector.

She added that policies are being simplified to improve ease of doing business, so that Delhi emerges not only as a consumption centre but also as a recognised trading and distribution hub.

Highlighting environmental concerns, the Chief Minister said plastic waste remains a major challenge in making Delhi clean and green, stressing the need for collective efforts backed by modern recycling and waste management technologies.

Sharing industry data, Gupta noted that India’s plastic industry was valued at around USD 44 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 47 billion in 2026, with estimates of nearly USD 64 billion by 2030. The sector employs millions, while India accounts for about six per cent of global plastic consumption, ranking third after China and the United States.

She said India is rapidly moving towards becoming a global plastic processing hub.
Stating that while plastic manufacturing is a business, responsible growth must remain the vision, Gupta warned that improper recycling and disposal could have serious environmental consequences.

She underlined that achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 requires not only economic progress but also a shift in mindset and behaviour.

Referring to MSMEs and the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, the Chief Minister said the plastic industry can play a significant role in both.

She also lauded the sector’s contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic in supplying PPE kits, medical equipment and essential packaging, noting that it supported both domestic and global needs, saving countless lives.

Plastindia 2026 commenced on February 5 and will continue until February 10 at Bharat Mandapam. Organised with the support of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of MSME, the event is regarded as one of the world’s largest plastic exhibitions.

Based on the theme ‘Bharat Next’, the exhibition aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat by promoting manufacturing, employment generation and a strong industrial base. Over 2,000 international exhibitors are showcasing machinery, raw materials, advanced technologies and circular economy solutions.

Notably, Plastindia 2026 is being organised for the first time as a zero-waste exhibition, ensuring recycling and reuse of waste materials.
