Bhopal: The persistent problem of motorists jumping red lights is becoming a major concern for law-abiding citizens of Bhopal. Despite over 80 percent of drivers adhering to traffic rules, the remaining 20 percent continue to flout regulations, endangering not only their own lives but also those of others.
Reckless driving, particularly by youth and even some older individuals, has become commonplace. Many indulge in high-speed zigzag driving in a bid to reach their destinations faster, disregarding basic safety norms.
Speaking to this Correspondent, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Basant Kaul, said, “We have installed RLVD (Red Light Violation Detection) cameras at 29 key locations across the city. These cameras automatically record violations and help us impose fines on offenders jumping red signals.”
Kaul further added that a record of repeated violations and unpaid fines is maintained. “A person with outstanding traffic fines will not be able to sell or transfer ownership of their vehicle unless the dues are cleared,” he noted.
He emphasised that rash driving is one of the leading causes of road accidents, many of which turn fatal. Authorities urge citizens to follow traffic rules strictly and avoid such dangerous behavior on roads to ensure safety for all.
