Rajya Sabha elections for Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab seats to be held on Oct 24

New Delhi, Sept 24 (UNI) Election for the four Rajya Sabha seats from the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and one seat from Punjab is scheduled to take place on October 24.
The Election Commission today said a notification regarding this will be issued on October 6 and candidates can file their nominations until October 13. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done by October 14, and last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be October 16.
The Commission said that under the biennial election process for the Rajya Sabha, voting for all these five seats will take place on October 24 from 9 AM to 4 PM, and counting of votes will begin the same day from 5 PM.
The four Rajya Sabha seats representing the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are vacant following the completion of the current members’ terms.
The Commission added that due to the absence of the required electoral college earlier, elections for these four seats could not be held on time. Now, as the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has a Legislative Assembly, biennial elections are being conducted.
