Railway E-Ticket racket busted under Operation ‘Uplabdh’

  • Tickets worth Rs 1.62 lakh seized

Bhopal: In a major crackdown under Operation ‘Uplabdh’, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Bhopal Division has uncovered a fraudulent e-ticket racket, seizing 75 reserved tickets worth Rs 1.62 lakh and a mobile phone used in the crime.

Acting on the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Mr. Debashish Tripathi and under the direction of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, the operation aimed to curb cybercrime and ensure transparency in the railway ticketing system.

According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Mr. Saurabh Kataria, the arrest followed a tip-off from Bhopal’s Cyber Cell. On June 17, 2025, a team led by Sub-Inspector Prakash Raghuvanshi apprehended 19-year-old Shahbaz Khan from Nehru Nagar, Sikandari Sarai, Bhopal.

The accused had allegedly used 22 fake personal user IDs to generate 75 reserved e-tickets. A mobile phone used in the ticketing fraud was also seized. The entire operation was video-recorded, and a case has been registered under Section 143 of the Railway Act. A formal investigation is now underway.

As the accused’s identity and address were verified and the offence is punishable by less than seven years, he was released with a notice to appear in court, as per Supreme Court guidelines.

Railway authorities reaffirm their commitment to passenger safety, convenience, and maintaining the integrity of the ticketing system, pledging continued vigilance against such illegal activities.
