New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today welcomed the revised direction of the Supreme Court on stray dogs and called it a “progressive step” that carefully balances animal welfare with public safety concerns.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said, “I welcome the Supreme Court’s revised directions on stray dogs, as it marks a progressive step toward balancing animal welfare and public safety. The approach is both compassionate and rooted in scientific reasoning.”
The Supreme Court today modified its earlier order of August 11, which had directed the rounding up of all stray dogs in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) and prohibited their release from shelters.
A three-judge bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjaria clarified that stray dogs will now be released back into the same areas after being dewormed, vaccinated and sterilised.
