Rahul Gandhi remembers sacrifice of soldiers, civilians in ‘26/11’

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday paid a sincere tribute to the victims and security personnel who laid down their lives during the ‘26/11’ Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “My humble tribute to the brave soldiers and common citizens who were martyred in the dussahasi terrorist attack in Mumbai on ‘26/11.’ India will never forget their courage, sacrifice, and martyrdom.”

Seventeen years after the 26/11 attacks, one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in India’s history, Mumbai today remembers the horrific night when 10 Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists unleashed a coordinated wave of terror on November 26, 2008.

The assault left 166 people dead and over 300 injured during a four-day siege. Today, the nation pauses to honor the victims and reaffirm its commitment to preventing such atrocities in the future.

The 60-hour siege targeted Mumbai’s luxury hotels, main railway station, and a Jewish cultural center. India’s bustling financial and entertainment hub was gripped by one of the most shocking terror attacks the world had witnessed.

The heavily armed terrorists arrived by sea in the evening, split into groups, hijacked vehicles, and struck strategic locations, including the Taj Mahal Palace and Oberoi Hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Nariman House, Cama Hospital, Metro Cinema, and Leopold Café.

Nine attackers were killed during the operation, while the lone surviving terrorist, Ajmal Kasab, was captured alive. He was sentenced to death in 2010 and executed in 2012 at a high-security prison in Pune.

The 26/11 attacks remain one of the most brutal examples of cross-border terrorism India has faced, and their memory is especially resonant today amid heightened security concerns following the recent November 10 blast in Delhi.

The tragic events of 26/11 continue to leave deep scars on the city and the families of those who lost their lives.

The streets of South Mumbai continue to bear witness to the horrors of those days, keeping the memory of the attacks alive.
