Rahul Gandhi cites ex-army chief’s memoir to criticise Modi over 2020 China standoff

New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday cited an unpublished memoir by a former army chief to accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not taking responsibility during the 2020 India-China border standoff.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House complex, Gandhi displayed what he described as Gen MM Naravane’s unpublished memoir and said young Indians should be aware of its existence, despite government denials.

Gandhi said the book contains a line attributed to Modi, “Jo uchit samjho woh karo” (Do whatever you think is appropriate), which he claimed showed the prime minister had shifted decision-making responsibility to the then army chief.

He said the Speaker, the government and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had all denied the existence of the memoir.

Gandhi also said he believed Modi would not attend proceedings in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and added that he would personally hand the book to the prime minister if he did. UNI SKA JRC
