Rahul Gandhi calls ECI’s electoral roll drive ‘Calculated Ploy,’ citing officer fatalities

New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Sunday launched a strong attack on the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, dramatically labeling the process an “imposed tyranny” and alleging it has resulted in chaos and the deaths of 16 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in just three weeks.

In a sharp post on X, Gandhi questioned the ECI’s motives, stating, “Under the guise of SIR, chaos has been unleashed across the country… Heart attacks, stress, suicides – SIR is no reform, it’s an imposed tyranny.”

The Congress leader further alleged that the ECI’s system is designed to deliberately exhaust citizens and facilitate “vote theft.” He criticized the revision process for forcing voters to sift through “thousands of scanned pages of a 22-year-old voter list,” contrasting this paper-based approach with India’s advanced IT capabilities.

“If the intent were pure, the list would be digital, searchable, and machine-readable,” Gandhi argued, accusing the ECI of prioritizing unneeded speed over essential transparency and accountability

Gandhi concluded by terming SIR a “calculated ploy” designed to harass ordinary citizens, adding the devastating claim that the deaths of the BLOs are being dismissed by authorities as mere “collateral damage.”
