All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi arrived in Kerala on Friday as part of visiting his constituency -Wayanad and thank the voters.
As against an earlier plan of a two-day visit, the Congress Chief has extended his tour to Wayanad for one more day to Sunday, as the Special Protection Group (SPG) had denied permission for his touring places during night, as pre-planned.
Congress sources said Mr Gandhi will be visiting different parts in Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts, where the constituency of Wayanad is spread, during his three-day visit from Friday to Sunday.
Mr Gandhi had landed at Karipur airport on Friday around 1415 hrs. Soon after landing at Karipur airport, the Congress Chief proceeded to Malappuram by road.
He is travelling in a specially designed vehicle which will move as a convoy in a road show.
KPCC Chief Mullapally Ramachandran, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala are among the leaders who are accompaniying Mr Gandhi in the road show.
According to sources, Mr Gandhi is unlikely to address supporters in all places as he has been advised by doctors to take a voice rest.
Mr Gandhi’s road show would be covering Kalikavu, Nilambur, Edavanna and Areekode today, before proceeding to Wayanad by late in the evening.
The itinerary of Mr Gandhi for tomorrow (Saturday) is: 1000 hrs: visit to MP Facilitation centre at Wayanad collectorate; 1100 hrs: reception meeting at Kalpetta town; 1130 hrs: Kambalakad; 1230 hrs: Panamaram town; 1400 hrs: Mananthavady; 1500 hrs: Pulpally town and 1600 hrs: Sulthan Bathery.
Mr Gandhi’s road show will be routing its way via Ingapuzha (1000 hrs) and Mukkam town (1130 hrs) on the third day of his visit on Sunday.
According to Congress sources, the Congress President will then make it to Karipur and return from there by around 1400 hrs.
