RJD legislature party leader in Bihar Rabri Devi today asked state health minister Mangal Pandey to resign from his post by owning moral responsibility for deaths of children due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) caused by ‘fault and negligence’ of the government in Muzaffarpur and adjoining districts of the state.
Former chief minister Rabri Devi told newspersons outside state legislative council that hundreds of children died due to AES due to ‘carelessness and mistakes’ of Nitish government. She said state health minister Mr Pandey should immediately resign from his post by owning moral responsibility for these deaths.
“If Mr Pandey does not resign from his post, chief minister Nitish Kumar should promptly resign from his post,” she remarked.
Senior RJD leader Ms Rabri Devi said state government did not take any measure to check AES and also did not make any arrangement for proper treatment of children suffering from it. Children afflicted with AES are not even getting food grains for eating food, she added.
Ms Rabri Devi welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s statement on AES in Rajya Sabha.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President address had said in Rajya Sabha, “Deaths of children due to AES are unfortunate and matter of shame for the nation.”
