Punjab: Tarun Chugh slams AAP govt’s 4-year tenure as ‘filmy drama’ amidst rising crime

Chandigarh, (UNI) BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh launched a scathing critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab on Monday, characterising its fourth anniversary as the exposure of a failed governance model.

Chugh asserted that the state administration is currently attempting to fabricate a false narrative of progress and industrial growth to mask deep-seated crises. He dismissed the government’s recent initiatives as cosmetic exercises, stating that the “Punjab Model” has been reduced to expensive publicity campaigns and hollow promises that have left the state’s future in jeopardy.

Specifically addressing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s announcement regarding a film city, Chugh remarked that while such projects might align with the Chief Minister’s personal interests, they do not address the urgent needs of the state. He described the Punjab Investors’ Summit as a “filmy drama,” arguing that holding such an event is redundant when the state is grappling with deteriorating law and order, frequent reports of violence and a climate of fear.

According to Chugh, the government is focusing on image-building rather than implementing a result-oriented governance model that could ensure the safety of its citizens and investors.

The BJP leader further alleged that the AAP government has betrayed the youth by failing to deliver on its foundational promises. He pointed out that the assurances of creating 25 lakh jobs, eradicating the drug menace within four months, and providing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for every crop have all proven to be misleading.

Chugh highlighted that essential welfare commitments, including the establishment of 16 medical colleges, 16,000 mohalla clinics and increased pensions for widows and senior citizens remain largely unfulfilled even after four years of governance.

Concluding his attack, Chugh claimed that the state’s resources are being systematically diverted to serve the political ambitions of Arvind Kejriwal rather than the welfare of Punjab’s residents.

He expressed concern over the rise of gangsterism, drug trafficking and extortion, alleging that the administration has prioritised propaganda over actual development.

Chugh maintained that the youth of Punjab are facing unprecedented levels of frustration due to vanishing opportunities and the state’s resources are being wasted on maintaining a false perception of success through massive advertisement spends.
