- Revival of Wells, Step Wells, and Ponds to Boost and Conserve Groundwater
The Chief Minister launched the state-level campaign from Ramghat on the banks of the sacred Kshipra River in Ujjain on March 30. Dr. Yadav emphasized that the enthusiastic public involvement clearly shows that the state is taking a leading role in the Prime Minister’s mission of “Water Conservation through Public Participation.”
The state government is running this campaign based on the principle: “Water from the field should remain in the field; water from the village should remain in the village.” A special focus is being placed on rainwater harvesting, the revival of traditional water sources, and the adoption of modern water conservation techniques under this campaign. The Chief Minister said this initiative will play a vital role in raising awareness about water conservation. He has instructed all relevant departments to prioritize water-related schemes and connect as many people as possible to the campaign.
Campaign Progress in Ujjain with Public Support
The campaign, which began in Ujjain under the leadership of CM Dr. Yadav, is focused on water conservation, rejuvenation of water sources, improvement of groundwater levels, restoration of old wells and stepwells, cleaning of water sources, tree plantation, and protection of small rivers and ponds. Public support has started to flow in. Under the guidance of Ujjain District Panchayat CEO Ms. Jayati Singh, the Janpad Panchayat team, with the help of local residents, cleaned several historical stepwells, including Chintaman Bawdi, Gothda Bawdi, Ranawad Bawdi, and Bamora Bawdi.
Spiritual Leaders in Indore Spreading the Message of Water Conservation
In the Indore district, spiritual leaders are joining the campaign to spread awareness about the importance of water conservation. Through their teachings, they are encouraging citizens to take part in cleaning and restoring water bodies like stepwells, wells, and ponds. In Barlai Jagir village, Guru Shri Anandacharya of the Charbhujanath Temple in Sanwer performed rituals and water worship along with his disciples. He stressed that every drop of water is life-giving and holds a sacred place in our religious traditions. Inspired by his message, devotees contributed labor to clean the stepwell in Barlai Jagir. He emphasized that the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan is a crucial step toward ensuring water abundance and security for future generations.
Community Labor and Awareness Drives in Sidhi
With the help of college students, the Madhya Pradesh Jan Abhiyan Parishad has started desilting and cleaning the significant Gopaldas Pond in Sidhi. The effort is expanding to other water bodies as well. To raise awareness, activities such as community dialogues, wall writing, and literary competitions like essay and poetry contests are being held.
The Navankur organization, Jan-Chetna Gram Vikas Samiti, conducted a cleanliness drive through community labor in Tirchuli River in Nadha—an ideal village in Sidhi district. Residents cleaned and deepened the village reservoir and areas around hand pumps.
River Cleaning Drive Begins at Girraj Ghat on Seep River in Sheopur
As part of the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan in Sheopur, the Navankur organization of the Jan Abhiyan Parishad, with the support of social workers and voluntary organizations, carried out a community cleaning drive (shramdaan) at Girraj Ghat on the Seep River.
Awareness Rallies and Community Work in Seoni
In Seoni district, programs are being organized to conserve and revive rivers, wells, ponds, and stepwells in rural areas under the Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan. To involve the public, awareness rallies and wall-writing campaigns are being conducted.
