Public foils attempted assault on child in Bhopal

  • Accused takes 6-year-old minor to a secluded place on pretext of chocolate

Bhopal: A major tragedy was narrowly averted in the state capital this afternoon when alert locals intervened and foiled the attempted sexual assault of a six-year-old girl within the isolated structure of the historic Benazir Palace.

The shocking incident, which occurred around 3:00 PM, has once again brought the issue of child safety into sharp focus. The perpetrator, identified as Mohit alias Gappu, was allegedly attempting to assault the minor inside the deserted, old-era palace building.

The swift action of nearby citizens prevented the crime from being completed. Locals caught the accused, who was held along with the distressed child until the police arrived. The Shahjahanabad Police Station immediately took cognizance of the matter, registering an FIR under relevant severe sections.

Police confirmed that the accused, Mohit, is a habitual offender who has previously served time for theft charges. Congress leader and Ward Representative Mohammad Zahir arrived at the station with supporters as news of the incident spread. Authorities lauded the community’s vigilance, noting their bravery prevented a horrific crime.
