Speaking to the press after the match Akhil Gupta, CEO, PWL said that conducting the league was merely the first step in bringing about a ‘wrestling revolution’ in the country. He spoke about the roadmap for the future
“Our ambition was not merely limited to the league, our aim is to bring about a wrestling revolution in the country. For a sport to flourish, firstly support has to reach the grass roots level and secondly its proper commercialisation has to be done. As part of grass roots development we need to reach the Akhara level, competition level was very high at the league, that will further go up once proper work is done at the grass roots. We will have a robust social media engagement programme, one aspect of that is that we will be launching a mobile game based on the PWL. That would make heroes out of our players and package our product better.”
Gupta said that he is very much open to introducing new innovations to the league rules so as to make it more appealing to the spectators
“this time we introduced the power minute, it made it more exiting, providing edge of the seat excitement, we will keep on exploring possibilities of introducing more such innovations in the future. We will innovate keeping within the United World Wrestling(UWW) and Wrestling Federation of India(WFI) framework.”
Chairman of Pro Wrestling League(PWL) Dayaan Farooqi expressed happiness at the reception the league received and hoped that Indian wrestlers who played at the league win medals for country.
“the league has been revived after 7 years, and the happiness that I saw in people’s faces at the re-launch was something that filed us with happiness. Even if one wrestler competing here wins a medal for India we will think that our efforts were not in vain,”
