Priyanka defends Sonia, says her ‘tired’ remark on President Murmu was twisted

New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday defended her Mother Sonia Gandhi over the latter’s ‘tired’ remark on President Droupadi Murmu and said the Rajya Sabha MP has high regards for the President and accused the media of twisting her statement.

Talking to reporters at the Parliament House, the Wayanad MP said, “She (Sonia Gandhi) is a 78-year-old lady. She simply said that the President must have been tired reading such a long speech”.

“She has utmost respect for the President and, I think it is very unfortunate that this kind of thing is twisted by media. It is pretty clear that she means no disrespect,” Priyanka said.

Meanwhile, the Rashtrapati Bhawan in a statement had condemned Sonia Gandhi’s “tired” remark on President Murmu calling it “unacceptable” and stated that it has hurt the dignity of the high office.
