President Murmu holds talks with Fijian PM Rabuka

Suva/New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu, who is on a state visit to Fiji, held productive talks with Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to further strengthen bilateral ties. They also witnessed the handing over of formal documentation for setting up a 100-bed super specialty hospital in Suva and for the Indian Chancery.

Later, the President paid her respects at the National War Memorial in Suva, and addressed the Indian diaspora.

The President’s Office and the MEA spokesperson in posts on X said:

“Imparting further momentum to India-Fiji ties!

“President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn had a productive meeting with the PM @slrabuka of Fiji in Suva today.

“The two leaders took stock of bilateral partnership and discussed avenues to further strengthen the long-standing ties.

“The leaders witnessed the handing over of formal documentation of project sites for the 100-bedded super speciality hospital in Suva, and for the Chancery premises of High Commission of India.”

“Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of Fiji called on President Droupadi Murmu. Both leaders held wide-ranging discussions and agreed to build upon the historic ties and strengthen the partnership between the two countries.”

In his comments, PM Rabuka said the Indian President’s visit is a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between the two nations.

President Murmu and PM Rabuka officiated at the handover ceremony for land title documents for the respective sites on which the Regional 100-Bed Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital Project and the site for the Indian High Commission, Staff Residence, and Cultural Center to be constructed in Suva

The 100-bed super-speciality cardiology hospital will help meet the priority needs of Fiji and the wider Pacific region.

President Murmu has expressed confidence that the establishment of the hospital in Nasinu will further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations.

The hospital aims to alleviate the burden of non-communicable diseases through the provision of advanced medical facilities and infrastructure in the Pacific region.

President Murmu said India and Fiji can unite and maximize the partnership’s potential for the benefit of both nations.

“I am confident that the newly announced project, including the super speciality cardiology hospital to be established in Suva, will help meet the priority needs of the people of Fiji and the wider Pacific Region,” she said.

On her visit to the National War Memorial, the MEA spokesperson posted:

On her address to the Indian diaspora, it posted:

“President appreciated the diaspora for their special contribution to cementing the India-Fiji friendship.”
