Algiers/New Delhi, (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Algiers on the first leg of her three-nation visit. This is the first visit by an Indian President to Algeria.
President Droupadi Murmu was received at Algiers’ Houari-Boumediene International Airport by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in a special gesture.
Other members of the cabinet were also present at the airport. President Murmu was accorded a warm ceremonial welcome, the President’s office said on X.
The MEA spokesperson posted on X:
“President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn arrived in Algiers to a ceremonial welcome on the first leg of her 3 nation visit.
“This is the first visit by an Indian President to Algeria.
“In a special gesture, President was warmly received by President @TebbouneAmadjid of Algeria.”
The two presidents listened to the both countries’ anthems and saluted detachments of various forces of the People’s National Army (PNA), which paid them the honors, at the same time as 21 cannon shots rang out in honour of Algeria’s guest.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, started a four-day state visit to Algeria on Sunday evening.
President Murmu’s visit to Algeria from Oct 13-15 is at the invitation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. During the visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with her counterpart. Several Algerian dignitaries including President of the Council of Nation (Upper House of the Algerian Parliament) and President of National People’s Assembly (Lower House of the Algerian Parliament) are expected to call on her.
President Murmu will address the India-Algeria Economic Forum and the Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology Pole University. She will also inaugurate the India Corner at Hamma Garden at Jardin d’essai. India and Algeria share cordial relations with cooperation in several fields including strategic areas like oil and gas, defence, and space cooperation. The visit is expected to further enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.
She travels to Mauritania and Malawi from Algeria.
