Power outage during NEET Exam in Indore

  • Students forced to write in darkness
  • No backup at centers

Indore: Thousands of medical aspirants in Indore were left struggling on Sunday when a sudden power outage disrupted the NEET examination at several centers across the city. Heavy rain and strong winds led to widespread electricity failure—yet shockingly, many exam centers lacked basic power backup systems.

Out of the 49 NEET exam centers in Indore, over 10 reportedly faced power cuts, affecting more than 27,000 students. With no generators on site, examinees were forced to write one of the most crucial papers of their lives in dim or no lighting. The situation caused frustration among students and outrage among parents, some of whom protested outside the affected centers.

Responding to the backlash, Indore District Collector Ashish Singh acknowledged the issue, stating that while all exam preparations were in place, the unexpected weather disrupted arrangements at a few locations. He admitted that the exam centers had no provision for generators, as current NEET guidelines do not mandate backup power.

Singh assured that in future exams, all concerned departments will be notified in advance to ensure backup measures are in place. However, the larger concern now looms: if students’ performance was impacted due to these conditions, who will be held accountable?
