Police seize truck carrying illicit liquor worth Rs 1.2 crore

Bhopal: In a major crackdown, police intercepted a truck loaded with a massive consignment of illicit liquor early Thursday morning. Officials recovered 1,200 cases of foreign liquor, valued at approximately Rs 1.2 crore. The consignment was allegedly being smuggled from Bhopal to Indore, with Gujarat as its final destination.

According to reports, Khajuri police station received a crucial tip-off from an informant stating that a large truck transporting illegal liquor was en route to Indore. Acting swiftly, the police set up a blockade near the station. Between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m., the truck approached the checkpoint. On being signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee, but police successfully nabbed him.

Upon interrogation, the driver failed to produce any legitimate documents related to the consignment He claimed that the goods were loaded in Bairagarh, Bhopal, and were to be delivered in Indore. The illicit liquor was being transported in a container cleverly disguised as carrying plastic granules. Initial scrutiny revealed that the accompanying documents were fraudulent.

The seized liquor included popular brands such as Signature, Old Monk, Bagpiper, Royal Stag, and Royal Challenge.

Excise Dept to conduct further probe

Police have handed over the case to the Excise Department, which will spearhead the detailed investigation.

Sub-Inspector Santram Khanna stated that this is the largest liquor seizure of 2025 so far. The truck and driver have been taken into custody, and further legal action is underway.
