Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Police have intensified their drive against the illegal cultivation and trafficking of narcotic substances across the state. In a series of operations carried out over the past week, police teams in Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Damoh districts seized more than 7,890 kg of illegally cultivated opium, with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 3 crore.
In Chhatarpur district, police acting on a tip-off raided a field in Urdmau village under Garhimallera police station limits and found opium plants spread across nearly half an acre. The crop, weighing about 1,140 kg and valued at around Rs 70 lakh, was uprooted and seized.
In Tikamgarh’s Digoda area, officers discovered opium plants hidden among wheat crops in Pratappura village. Around 419 kg of the crop, worth over Rs 45 lakh, was confiscated.
Meanwhile, in Damoh district’s Suhela village, police seized about 6,331 kg of opium cultivated over nearly 2.5 acres, valued at approximately Rs 1.89 crore. Cases have been registered under the NDPS Act.
