Srinagar, Jan 27 (UNI) Police achieved a significant success when they seized about 15 kgs of narcotics and apprehended five individuals in separate incidents in Kashmir valley.
Police on Monday said that during checking at Galander Crossing, Police party of Pampore in Pulwama district apprehended three persons travelling on a scooty along with 8.160 Kgs of grinded Poppy Straw like substance.
The accused have been identified as Owais Gull a resident of Drangbal Pampore, Tariq Ah Sheikh of Tulbagh Pampore and Mushtaq Ah Mir of Namblabal Pampore.
The Scooty being used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
A case FIR Number 9/ 2025 under relevant sections of NDPS stands registered at Police Station Pampore.
Police on Monday said that it established a naka (checkpoint) on the Sirhama link road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during which a suspicious individual carrying a bag was asked to stop.
Upon noticing the police party, the individual attempted to flee but was swiftly and tactfully apprehended by the alert police team.
On initial questioning, the individual disclosed his identity as Abdul Rehman Mir a resident of Sirhama and upon searching his belongings, 1.270 kg of cannabis powder was recovered from his bag.
Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 04/2025 under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
In another operation, based on specific information, a police party of Mattan conducted a raid at the residence of Javid Ahmad Padder a resident of Pethnambal Mattan and recovered 5 kilograms of Charas powder from the house.
In this case, FIR No. 05/2025 registered in Police Station Mattan and the accused was arrested and contraband seized.
Police in Anantnag have appealed to the public to share any information related to drug peddling or illegal activities to eradicate the menace from the district.
