New Delhi, Sept 12 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal and poll-bound Bihar on September 15 to unveil a series of major projects worth Rs 36,000 crore related with infrastructure development, energy security, agriculture, rural welfare, and connectivity in the two key states of eastern India.
In Kolkata, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and address the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference-2025, a premier forum that brings together the nation’s top civilian and military leadership and deliberate on India’s military preparedness and future strategic directions.
Later on the same day, Modi will visit Bihar where he will launch the National Makhana Board, aimed at boosting production, technology development, post-harvest management, and value addition in Makhana cultivation, said a PMO statement here today.
Bihar, which accounts for nearly 90% of India’s total Makhana output, will see districts such as Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Katihar, Purnea, Supaul, Kishanganj, and Araria benefiting from the Board’s initiatives to promote market, export, and brand development.
At Purnea Airport, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Interim Terminal Building, enhancing the region’s passenger handling capacity. He will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several projects worth around Rs36,000 crore, including a 3×800 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, the largest private sector investment in Bihar valued at Rs25,000 crore. The power project, designed using ultra-super critical and low-emission technology, is expected to significantly strengthen Bihar’s energy security.
In another first for eastern and north-eastern India, Modi will inaugurate the Sex Sorted Semen Facility under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission at Purnea. The facility, capable of producing five lakh sex-sorted semen doses annually, employs indigenous technology launched in October 2024.
The initiative aims to improve dairy productivity, increase female calf births, and boost incomes for small and marginal farmers and landless labourers.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone for Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, valued at over Rs 2,680 crore. This project focuses on upgrading the canal system through desilting, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, and enhancing discharge capacity from 15,000 to 20,000 cusecs, benefiting multiple districts in northeastern Bihar through improved irrigation, flood control, and agricultural resilience.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of key railway projects, including the Rs 2,170 crore rail link between Bikramshila and Katareah, which will provide a direct crossing over the Ganga, and the Rs 4,410 crore rail line between Araria and Galgalia (Thakurganj).
Additionally, he will flag off the Vande Bharat Express between Jogbani and Danapur, and Amrit Bharat Express trains running between Saharsa and Chheharta (Amritsar), as well as Jogbani and Erode, said the statement.
PM Modi will also participate in Griha Pravesh ceremonies, handing over keys to over 40,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural and Urban) schemes and will distribute community investment funds amounting to around Rs 500 crore to Cluster Level Federations under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM).
