New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Narmada district in Gujarat on Saturday, November 15, to mark Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the legendary tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The visit underscores the government’s focus on tribal empowerment and inclusive development, according to an official release on Friday.
During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 9,700 crore, covering key sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, and cultural heritage, with special attention to tribal welfare.
Among the flagship projects are the construction of 100,000 houses under the PM-JANMAN and DA-JAGUA schemes to provide secure shelter for tribal families. Education initiatives include the establishment of 42 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) valued at Rs 1,900 crore, along with 50 new EMRS projects worth Rs 2,320 crore to improve access to quality education for tribal youth.
To enhance connectivity, the government plans to deploy 250 buses across 14 tribal districts and construct 748 kilometers of new roads, facilitating greater mobility and access to essential services. Community development will be supported through 228 Multi-Purpose Centres and 14 Tribal Multi-Marketing Centres (TMMCs) aimed at boosting livelihoods and market access.
The Prime Minister will also highlight efforts to preserve tribal culture, with initiatives such as the Centre of Competence at Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh and the Tribal Research Institute building in Imphal, Manipur.
PM Modi’s visit will include participation in the Grih Pravesh ceremony at Dediapada, where he will address the public and reinforce the government’s commitment to accelerating development in underserved tribal areas.
This comprehensive push reflects the broader agenda of fostering equitable growth and honoring the legacy of tribal leaders like Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who championed the rights and dignity of India’s indigenous communities.
