PM Modi to land in Jordan on first leg of three-nation visit

New Delhi Dec 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will land in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, marking the first leg of his landmark three-nation tour to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman.
The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with key partners in the Middle East and Africa.
During his stay in Jordan, PM Modi will commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations with the country, hold detailed discussions with His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and engage with the Indian diaspora, whose contributions have significantly strengthened India–Jordan relations.
“Today, I am embarking on a three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, three nations with which India shares both age-old civilizational ties and extensive contemporary bilateral relations,” PM Modi said in a departure statement.
India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at USD 2.8 billion. Fertilizer cooperation, including the USD 860-million Jordan India Fertilizer Company, remains a key pillar of the partnership. PM Modi and King Abdullah will also jointly address a major business forum.
From Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia on his first-ever visit to the country, at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. Addis Ababa, which also hosts the headquarters of the African Union, has acquired added significance for India since the African union was admitted as a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency in 2023.
In Ethiopia, PM Modi will hold detailed discussions with Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, engage with the Indian diaspora, and address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament. “I eagerly look forward to sharing my thoughts on India’s journey as the ‘Mother of Democracy’ and the value that the India–Ethiopia partnership can bring to the Global South,” PM Modi said.
Several agreements are expected to be signed covering investment, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, technology, and climate initiatives, further consolidating cooperation between the two countries.
The final leg of PM Modi’s tour is the Sultanate of Oman, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. The visit follows the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India in December 2023 and will focus on strengthening the strategic partnership, covering maritime security, trade, energy, food security, green hydrogen, health, and defense cooperation.
In Muscat, PM Modi will meet His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and address the Indian diaspora, which numbers over 675,000 and has played a vital role in Oman’s development. With bilateral trade at USD 10.6 billion, the visit is expected to deepen investment avenues and formalize new agreements.
