This will be followed by a drone show at the temple premises, highlighting the spiritual and cultural significance of the historic shrine.
On January 11, the Prime Minister will participate in the Shaurya Yatra at around 9:45 am, a ceremonial procession organised to honour the countless warriors who sacrificed their lives defending the Somnath Temple across centuries. He will then perform darshan and pooja at the temple at around 10:15 am. At about 11 am, the Prime Minister will attend a public function marking the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, an event centred on national pride, cultural resurgence and historical remembrance.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Rajkot to take part in the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for the Kutch and Saurashtra region. From Rajkot, Prime Minister Modi will proceed to Ahmedabad. At around 5:15 pm, he will inaugurate the remaining stretch of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro, from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir, at the Mahatma Mandir metro station. The metro expansion is expected to further strengthen urban connectivity and ease commuter movement in the city.
On January 12, the Prime Minister will meet Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, in Ahmedabad, underscoring the growing depth of India-Germany relations. At around 9:30 am, the two leaders will visit the Sabarmati Ashram, a key symbol of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and India’s freedom movement. This will be followed by their participation in the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront at around 10 am.
Bilateral engagements will commence from 11:15 am onwards at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, where Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz will review the progress of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which recently completed 25 years. The discussions are expected to focus on cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, clean energy, innovation and people-to-people ties.
The visit reflects a blend of India’s cultural heritage, development priorities and expanding global partnerships, with Gujarat once again serving as a key hub for major national and international engagements.
