PM Modi remembers freedom fighters on Goa Liberation Day

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to the sacrifices of freedom fighters on Goa Liberation Day, calling it a defining chapter in India’s national journey.
“Goa Liberation Day reminds us of a defining chapter in our national journey. We recall the indomitable spirit of those who refused to accept injustice and fought for freedom with courage and conviction,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
“Their sacrifices continue to inspire us as we work towards the all-round progress of Goa,” he added.
On the occasion of Goa Liberation Day, the Governor announced that Raj Bhavan will now be called Lok Bhavan, meaning “People’s House,” symbolizing transparency, inclusiveness, and service to the citizens of Goa.
He paid tribute to the freedom fighters and unsung heroes who resisted colonial rule, recalling Goa’s liberation on 19 December 1961 through Operation Vijay, which ended over 450 years of Portuguese domination. The Governor emphasized the importance of unity, courage, and resilience in achieving independence.
Highlighting Goa’s progress, he noted milestones such as 100% literacy, sustainable and inclusive tourism under the “Goa Beyond Beaches” initiative, and strides in sports and cultural development. He also underscored the state’s commitment to a green future through the Clean Energy Roadmap 2050.
The Governor urged Goans to honor the sacrifices of the past while working towards a prosperous, vibrant, and resilient future, reaffirming the state’s dedication to justice, unity, and progress.
