PM Modi pays tribute to Lala Lajpat Rai on birth anniversary

‎New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary, remembering his immense contribution to India’s struggle for independence and calling his life a lasting inspiration for generations.

‎Taking to the social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Lala Lajpat Rai as an “immortal son of the motherland” and highlighted his selfless sacrifice for the nation. “Matribhoomi ki amar santan Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai ko unki jayanti par aadarpoorn shraddhanjali. Maa Bharati ko gulaami ki bediyon se mukt karane ke liye unhonne apna sarvasv arpit kar diya. Unka balidaani jeevan desh ki har peedhi ke liye prernaasrot bana rahega,” PM Modi wrote.

‎In his message, PM Modi underlined how Lala Lajpat Rai devoted his entire life to freeing India from colonial rule and said his courage and patriotism continue to inspire the nation. Popularly known as “Punjab Kesari,” Lala Lajpat Rai was one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian freedom movement. He was a key member of the Lal-Bal-Pal trio, along with Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal, and played a significant role in mobilising public opinion against British rule.

‎Lala Lajpat Rai died in 1928 after sustaining injuries during a brutal lathi charge by British police while leading a peaceful protest against the Simon Commission in Lahore.

His sacrifice became a defining moment in India’s freedom struggle and further intensified the movement against colonial oppression. Leaders and citizens across the country also paid homage to the freedom fighter, remembering his fearless leadership, nationalist ideals, and enduring legacy.
