‎PM Modi pays tribute to Jayalalithaa on birth anniversary, recalls her “Grit and Determination” ‎

‎New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) Prime Minister ‎Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid rich tributes to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on her birth anniversary, remembering her as a “charismatic leader and outstanding administrator” who left a lasting imprint on Indian politics.

‎In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said, “Remembering Jayalalithaa Ji on her birth anniversary. She has made a place in the hearts and minds of countless people as a charismatic leader and outstanding administrator. Her life journey was one of immense grit and determination.”

‎Highlighting her tenure as Chief Minister, Modi noted her emphasis on welfare and inclusive governance.

“As the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, she championed welfare-driven governance with a strong focus on women empowerment, social justice and inclusive development. She was both compassionate and decisive. I recall with great joy my interactions with her,” he wrote.

‎Jayalalithaa, fondly known as “Amma” by her supporters, served multiple terms as Chief Minister and was one of the most influential regional leaders in contemporary Indian politics. Rising from a successful career in cinema to the political arena, she led the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and built a formidable support base through a mix of welfare initiatives and strong leadership.

‎Her government was widely recognized for pioneering social welfare schemes, including subsidized food canteens, healthcare initiatives, and measures aimed at enhancing women’s safety and financial independence. Her administrative style combined populist outreach with firm decision-making, earning both admiration and criticism but cementing her status as a towering political figure in the state.

‎Prime Minister Modi also referred to his remarks about Jayalalithaa in a recent episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, where he reflected on her contributions to public life and enduring legacy.

‎Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary is observed across Tamil Nadu with party workers and supporters organising commemorative events, highlighting her continued influence in the state’s political and social landscape.
