PM Modi pays tribute to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, recalls their enduring legacy of sacrifice

‎New Delhi, March 23 (UNI) ‎Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid homage to freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, remembering their martyrdom as a defining moment in India’s struggle for independence.

‎In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Today, we bow in reverence to the brave sons of Bharat Mata, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. Their martyrdom for the nation remains etched in our collective memory.”

‎Highlighting their courage and dedication at a young age, Modi noted that the trio’s sacrifice continues to inspire generations. “At a young age, they displayed extraordinary courage and an unshakable commitment to the cause of India’s freedom. Undeterred by the might of colonial rule, they chose the path of sacrifice with conviction, placing the nation above their own lives,” he said.

‎The Prime Minister further emphasised the enduring relevance of their ideals. “Their ideals of justice, patriotism and fearless resistance continue to ignite the spirit of countless Indians,” he added.

‎Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev are among the most revered revolutionaries of India’s freedom movement. They were executed by the British colonial government on March 23 in 1931 for their role in the assassination of British officer J P Saunders, an act carried out in retaliation for the death of nationalist leader Lala Lajpat Rai. Their execution at a young age transformed them into enduring symbols of resistance against colonial oppression.

‎Over the decades, their legacy has been commemorated across the country, particularly on Martyrs’ Day, with leaders and citizens alike recalling their courage and commitment to the nation. Their lives and sacrifices continue to occupy a central place in India’s collective memory, inspiring ongoing conversations about patriotism, justice and the price of freedom.
