New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed sorrow following the devastating fire at a nightclub in Arpora, Goa, which has tragically claimed at least 23 lives and left approximately 50 people injured.
“The fire mishap in Arpora, Goa, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest,” PM Modi posted on his X handle.
The deadly incident occurred last night around midnight at Birch by Romeo Lane, a nightclub in Arpora. Initial reports suggest the blaze, which killed 23 people, including three women, and injured around 50 others, was triggered by a cylinder blast.
The Prime Minister also contacted Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, offering assurance of central government support for the victims and the state’s response.
“Spoke to Goa CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Ji about the situation. The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected,” PM Modi stated.
Chief Minister Sawant called the tragedy “very painful” and immediately ordered an inquiry. He pledged to ensure strict accountability, stating, “Those found responsible will face the most stringent action under the law.”
The fire, reportedly caused by the gas cylinder explosion, rapidly engulfed the venue, trapping both staff and tourists. Emergency services responded quickly, but tragically, many of the victims succumbed to suffocation.
