Singapore/New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and separately met with former Singapore PMs Lee Hsien Loong and Goh Chok Tong.
On his meeting with the former Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong, the PM posted on X that they exchanged views on how the two nations can work together in futuristic areas like green energy, Fin Tech.
“It is always gladdening to meet my friend and former PM of Singapore, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong. He has always been a strong votary of close India-Singapore ties. His insights on various matters are also very enriching. We had a great discussion on how our nations can work together in futuristic areas such as green energy, FinTech, etc.”
The MEA spokesperson posted:
“A warm exchange of views between PM @narendramodi and Senior Minister @leehsienloong at a lunch hosted by Senior Minister in honour of PM.
“PM appreciated Senior Minister Lee’s contributions to the development of India-Singapore partnership. They discussed developments in bilateral relations and regional and global issues of mutual interest.”
A statement said that the meeting took place over lunch hosted by Lee Hsien Loong.
Prime Minister Modi appreciated Senior Minister Lee’s contributions to the development of India – Singapore Strategic Partnership and expressed his hope that Senior Minister Lee will continue to give attention and guidance to Singapore’s relations with India in his new role as Senior Minister.
Recalling their earlier meetings, Prime Minister and Senior Minister Lee expressed satisfaction at the progress of India – Singapore relations into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They agreed that there exists substantial potential to do more, particularly under the pillars of cooperation identified during the two meetings of India – Singapore Ministerial Roundtable. They exchanged ideas for further strengthening bilateral cooperation and on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
On the meeting between PM Modi and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the MEA spokesperson posted:
“PM @narendramodi held fruitful talks with President @Tharman_S in Singapore today.
“PM thanked President @Tharman_S for his passionate support for India-Singapore partnership. Discussions focused on avenues to broaden and deepen India-Singapore cooperation.”
According to a statement, Prime Minister Modi appreciated President Tharman’s passionate support for the India – Singapore partnership.
The two leaders discussed bilateral and global issues of mutual interest. They noted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which is based on trust, mutual respect and complementarity. In this regard, they noted that the elevation of the ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will chart a robust way forward for joint collaboration.
They shared thoughts on how India and Singapore can expand their cooperation to new areas such as advanced manufacturing and in emerging technologies. Prime Minister conveyed that he looks forward to welcoming President Tharman to India next year, it said.
On the PM’s meeting with Former PM and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, the MEA spokesperson posted:
“PM @narendramodi met Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong in Singapore today.
“PM appreciated Emeritus Senior Minister Goh’s contributions in starting the “India Fever” in Singapore. They discussed ideas for further strengthening India-Singapore ties.”
A statement said that during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi noted that Emeritus Senior Minister Goh started the “India Fever” in Singapore and paid special attention to India-Singapore ties when he was the Prime Minister of Singapore. His efforts laid a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations. Prime Minister appreciated his invaluable support for India during and after his premiership. They shared thoughts on recent developments in India-Singapore relations and exchanged views on avenues to take bilateral cooperation to a new level.”
