PM Modi marks 11 years of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, praises Indian daughters’ achievements

New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday commemorated the 11th anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, highlighting the remarkable progress made by Indian girls across all fields.

“In our country, where daughters are revered as Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, it is a matter of great pride that today, Indian daughters are setting new records in every domain,” PM Modi said in a social media post. He also shared an ancient Sanskrit verse to emphasise the value of daughters:

Dashaputrasamaa kanya dashaputraan pravardhayan।

Yat falam labhte martyastallabhyam kanyayaikayaa॥

(A daughter is equivalent to ten sons; nurturing one daughter brings the fruit in life that ten sons cannot provide.)

Launched in 2012, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign was designed to combat declining child sex ratios and promote girls’ education and empowerment. Over the past decade, the initiative has facilitated significant improvements, including a rising sex ratio at birth in many states and increased enrollment of girls in schools.

Social activists claim that the campaign has saved countless lives and encouraged families to invest in their daughters’ education and well-being.

The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign stands as a symbol of India’s commitment to gender equality and a brighter future where daughters lead and succeed.
