PM Modi embarks on three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman

New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday embarked on a three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, aimed at strengthening India’s diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with these nations.
“Today, I am embarking on a three-nation visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the Sultanate of Oman—three nations with which India shares both age-old civilizational ties and extensive contemporary bilateral relations,” PM Modi said in a departure statement.
At the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, PM Modi is visiting Jordan from December 15 to 16, where he will mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During the visit, he will hold discussions with King Abdullah II to review the full spectrum of India–Jordan relations and exchange views on regional issues. India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade at USD 2.8 billion. Fertilizer cooperation, including the USD 860-million Jordan India Fertilizer Company, remains a key pillar of the partnership. PM Modi and King Abdullah will jointly address a major business forum.
Officials said the visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen bilateral engagement, explore new avenues for mutual growth and cooperation, and reaffirm the commitment of both countries to regional peace, security, and stability. PM Modi will also meet the 17,500-strong Indian community in Jordan.
The second leg of the trip will take PM Modi to Ethiopia, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and address a joint session of Parliament. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to Ethiopia, highlighting the shared commitment of both nations to advancing friendship and cooperation as partners in the Global South. He will also engage with the Indian diaspora in Addis Ababa.
Several agreements are expected to be inked covering investment, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, technology, and climate initiatives.
PM Modi’s final stop will be Oman, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The visit follows the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India in December 2023 and will focus on strengthening the strategic partnership, covering maritime security, trade, energy, food security, green hydrogen, health, and defense cooperation.
During the visit, PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora in Muscat and engage with Omani leadership on bilateral, regional and global issues. With bilateral trade at USD 10.6 billion and an Indian diaspora of over 675,000, the visit is expected to deepen investment avenues and finalize new agreements.
This three-nation visit underscores India’s commitment to enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation, strengthening strategic ties, and deepening people-to-people connections with key partners in the Middle East and Africa.
