New Delhi, July 5 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Labour Party leader Keir Starmer on his party’s landslide victory in the UK parliamentary elections and said he looks forward to the positive and constructive bilateral relations to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In a post on X, PM Modi also thanked Rishi Sunak for his active contribution to deepen the bilateral ties between India and the UK during his term in office.
Keir Starmer is set to become Britain’s next prime minister after his Labour Party clocked a landslide majority on Friday in the parliamentary elections and dealt a bruising defeat for incumbent premier Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party.
PM Modi said:
“Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to @Keir_Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity.”
For Sunak, he posted:
“Thank you @RishiSunak for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future.”
Keir Starmer, human rights barrister, was elected Britain’s new Prime Minister on Friday.
